Fractal Gallery
We at Infinity Design love fractals for several reasons.
Fractals are based on computations with complex numbers - a huge amount of calculations. In this approach, you find two aspects of user centered design: it is an iterative process and while the results get better with more iterations, after some loops, you won’t notice a big difference anymore.
There are other similarities with UX design. When zooming into fractals, you see that the patterns are repeating themselves. This is the same in UX design, where methods like usability testing or user research can be used on many different levels of detail. Another similarity: you do not only need a good formula but also patience, experience and talent to create beautiful solutions. I know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and as in UX design, there are many different aspects of “beautiful” to be appreciated.
To illustrate the impact of using different methods, below you find four fractals covering the same complex section of numbers but calculated with different algorithms. From my point of view a very nice case to show that it is worth thinking in different directions and that good solutions can come from various approaches.
